Say, “Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and sea? You invoke Him humbly and privately[1], ‘If only He rescues us from this, we will certainly be among those who are grateful.’”

[1] The Arabs of that time did not deny Allah’s Lordship (tawhīd al-rubūbiyyah) Whom they turned to in times of hardship, but they denied His sole Divinity (tawhīd al-ulūhiyyah), i.e., worshiping none but Allah.
